Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (ODTÜ) Mimarlık Fakültesi tarafından 2 Haziran'da Ecology of Logistics başlıklı online bir seminer düzenleniyor.
Abstract:
Logistics was an art of war. Throughout the centuries, armies marched on calculations and planning to siege cities, establish encampments, bring back plunder and distribute. Today logistics has become one of the many ways of sustaining the urbanization processes based on accelerating speeds and profit efficiency. Logistics as a discipline extends its boundaries to urban planning, politics, global trade, international relations, and architecture. Although it seems fragmented, the disciplinary boundaries of logistics are unified and compact. On the one hand, efficiency concerns of logistics govern technological innovations, institutions, diplomatic relations, and warfare. These fields heavily depend on definitions of logistics which are idealistic and utilitarian conceptualizations. On the other hand, theories of philosophy, culture, sociology, political geography, and architecture problematize the vague condition of flows (and figure, network, etc.) and disturbs the unity of logistics with new potentials of spatio-temporality. Logistics as a spatio-temporal practice performs over/under/through ecosystems, creating an ecology of distribution. The need to investigate how ways and methods of logistics change the spatial and temporal character of the cohabitation is due to the impact of distributional forces of urban life. Reconsidering the ecology of logistics is a call for critical perspectives that bring together the investigations on the connected grounds that logistics can be dispositioned.
How logistics networks produce power via quantifications, connections, extractions, and manufacture has become a question of resource management in production and consumption. The impact of logistics might become clearer studying the labor relations, policymaking, landscape, society, and environmental disruption that logistical enterprises partake in. Architecture can (re)invent a new topology for post-Anthropocene as research on logistics helps in detecting its emerging yet overlooked violent practices.
