LÂL

Designed by Mef Üniversitesi Tasarla Yap! Stüdyosu (FADA-23), LÂL is located in Samandağ district of Hatay.

The L L project, designed by MEF University Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture students within the scope of the 2023 Design and Build studio was designed to meet the needs of students in the earthquake zone.

Considering the impact of earthquake on spatial perception, such as the conversion of private or semi-public spaces into predominantly public areas, the project was shaped through discussions on reimagining public spaces in earthquake regions.

The aim was to provide diverse functions by integrating individual modules, including workspaces, seating areas, resting spots, and gathering points. While the modules were primarily designed as seating areas, the incorporation of textile and wooden details on the facades and roofs, along with their integration with other modules, endowed them with varied functions and experiential usage.

Every stage, from production to installation, was accomplished through teamwork involving students and coordinators. Although the project was initially designed in the FADA studio, it was implemented on-site in Hatay-Samandağ by the design team.

Each module comprises two wooden frame surfaces, which, when combined with secondary beams, form the primary structure. Differentiation of the modules is achieved by adding slabs at various levels and through connections. Furthermore, the detailed elements on the facade and roof of the modules expand or redefine their relationship with the surroundings. Angled modules also serve as bridges, reinforcing connections with the main structural modules.

Lâl aims to diversify and distinguish individual modules by combining them. By highlighting singularity and tranquility in earthquake-affected areas and emphasizing the transition from individuality to communal spaces, it provides a public space for everyone, particularly students, seeking such experiences.
