Designed by Tabanlıoğlu Architecture, AKM Biz Istanbul is located in Istanbul.
After the Atatürk Cultural Center joined the city’s art and culture life, the area located on the terrace of the main building was designed as a place that represents Istanbul and this culture in every sense.
One of the values that Istanbul, which was one of the most important points on the Silk and Spice routes and became the capital of two great empires, by blending the very different cultures it has gained through commercial and cultural exchanges as an important port city, is the food it encounters and brings together by going beyond Anatolia and Ottoman lands; it is a unique food culture with its ingredients.
The elevator lobby, which is the first welcoming point of the restaurant, which has a view of the Bosphorus, gives a clue about the atmosphere of the restaurant – the main reference of which is the city of Istanbul and the AKM of which it is a part – with the ceramic panels, wood and copper wall coverings and the motifs of these modular materials. in this spacious and modest waiting area with a welcome desk and bench Istanbul photos of Ara Güler showcased on the walls.
On the terrace floor, the first of the hospitality spaces, consisting of interlocking compartments, is the “intimate “sofa-sini” area, one can get fast service while waiting, make use of the short time before the show, and browse the books on the surrounding shelves.
The following section serves as a restaurant/brasserie in a table setting, serving traditional home cuisine, seasonal or special occasion dishes, and a menu that suits the concept and changing content.
In this section, the blue/turquoise ceramic back wall coverings, which are handled together with the mirror and ceiling coverings, were inspired and specially designed as derivatives of the original ceramics of AKM.
In the third (middle) section, designed with the fluid coexistence of modules with curvilinear forms, the street flavors of Istanbul are presented with visual richness beyond the delicatessen flavor unique to the city and Anatolia.
The show kitchen, located behind the last counter of these curvilinear modules, one of which serves as a large bar, makes the space unique with its infrastructure and design in line with traditional cooking methods. Like the curvilinear bar counter in the middle, the tables in this space are made of white onyx, like the original fireplace in the living room.
The last area, with its terrace and interior with a view especially in the direction of the Historic Peninsula, has an elegant space design, suitable for the “exclusive kitchen” menu and presentation content with white linen tablecloths; The ceramic wall in this place is preferred in purple tones as a color used in the palace to represent nobility in the Byzantine and Ottoman periods.
There is a custom-built piano in this place, along with a customizable flexible table arrangement, special wine-case, Onyx fireplace. Istanbul-themed digital art-works are exhibited acroos the ceramic walls.
Inspired by the interior proportions of the Amcazade mansion, the space has a terrace area with an open Bosphorus view. All the halls are connected to the terrace, and when necessary, a folding glass facade is used on the terrace facade to ensure that the interior and exterior areas can be combined.
Terrazo is used on all living room floors; paledian mosaic floors lead towards the Bosphorus.
Authentic service and cooking utensils such as copper and porcelain are produced by the craftsmen specially designed for the place where traditional works such as ceramics on the wall, ceramic panels, wooden ceiling, copper coatings, as well as under-glass inlaid mirrors are located.
With reference to the original ceramic wall panels, the designs in the new AKM with their modern interpretations, especially the red ceramics forming the hemispherical outer shell, are also reflected in the visual identity of the restaurant area.
Ceramic panels in varying colors and tones, optical ceramic-coated walls, wood and copper coatings, motifs forming the ceiling, and dome-inspired patterns based on grid arithmetic carried by these modular materials bear traces of Istanbul and, in particular, AKM architecture.
AKM terrace restaurant, which will both provide financial support to the cultural enterprise and ensure that all Istanbulites have access to this precious view, and also serve as an intermediate space before the play, is an example of contemporary architecture and a part of a valuable artistic performance structure, one of the important cultural centers of Istanbul. While opening its unique cuisine, which is one of its values, to the world, it will also highlight this claim with its spatial design, and will be a favorite stop for foreign visitors as well as urban residents and an ‘Istanbul restaurant opening to the world’.
