Panorama Architecture has undertaken the transformation of Méjanes Municipal Library since its creation in 1989, focusing on contemporary needs as a "Third Place" in the heart of the arts district.
Since its creation in 1989, the Méjanes municipal library is going to undergo another transformation in order to provide the city with a cultural facility that meets contemporary needs of a “Third Place” (place of public sociability), and in order to enhance its urban positioning and its singularity at the heart of the arts district comprised of the Grand Théâtre de Provence, the Conservatoire de Musique, and the Centre Chorégraphique National.
This operation involves several key components, i.e., thermal and energy improvements, repositioning of the main entrance on the Rue des Allumettes, renovation and enhancement of the main elements of the library, the addition of new elements to the program of which the creation of an exhibition gallery and a multipurpose hall.
The project involves a complete functional overhaul and will be designed in accordance with the principles of flexibility and modularity, thereby enabling it to be adapted to a range of cultural and social events, and to unceasing technological change.
The transformation includes the modernisation of the areas dedicated to its current partners, i.e., the Institut de l’Image and the Fondation Saint John Perse.
