26-27 Mayıs 2022 tarihlerinde Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi Şehir ve Bölge Planlama Bölümü Kentsel Tasarım Bilim Dalı tarafından çevrim içi olarak yapılacak 30. Kentsel Tasarım ve Uygulamalar Sempozyumu / 5. Uluslararası Kentsel Tasarım Kongresi'nin başlığı "Future of Urban Design + Urban Design of Future" olarak belirlendi.

Urban future has been a controversial topic with growing attention on environmental concerns, sustainability, and quality of urban life since the 1970s. In the last decades’ resiliency, economic instability, migration, social inequalities, climate change, food and water shortage, and recent pandemic were among the issues added to the urban agenda which are decisive on future scenarios. And the future is nearer than ever. The need for urgent actions on a global extent to intimidate negative effects of all types of threats calls urban design to take a stronger responsibility for better urban management.

The symposium is focusing on design-thinking considering that the urban space is not solely a matter of “design” issue on an aesthetic base but it is also a process that requires coherent management of urban policies with a collective action of all different parties. In the era of several environmental, social, and economic instabilities, short- and long-term urban policies became more important. Urban design is never apart from such an agenda. Within this perspective, on the one hand, urban design as a profession has an important role to reveal a better urban future, and on the other hand, urban design needs new approaches, new perspectives, new understandings, and new tools to meet the future necessities. Based on these new expectations, there are two prominent topics are defined for the 30th Urban Design and Implementations Symposium:

How can urban design contribute to mitigate near future crises in cities?

• Social in/equality, gender, and migration
• Economic in/stability and in/equality
• Environmental justice, ecosystem services, and access to food and water sources
• Urban policies for a better, equal, sustainable, and resilient future

How will urban design adapt itself to the future?

• New perspectives on interdisciplinary urban design
• (New) Theories of urban design
• New tools, new approaches, and new understandings
• Innovation in urban design
• Recent innovative and creative solutions by urban design
