Restoring and Preserving the Promenade and the Coast in the “Budva Bay”
The Budva Coast Project is an innovative coastal revitalization project that will bring life to a unique part of Budva’s history. Designed as one of the urban centers of the region, Budva and its surroundings will gain new functions and meanings, creating a center where residents can breathe and socialize. The proposed plan will add many uses to the area, increase its potential, strengthen green spaces, and contribute positively to the urban character by increasing its open space value. One of the main approaches is to create identity-based public spaces by reimagining and functionalizing undefined areas and urban connections. The project will ensure that the coastal strip integrates with the city through a strong relationship with its surroundings.
By designing different materials, scales, topographies, and programs, various spatial experiences will be created by creating pedestrian paths, squares, green areas, and resting areas. The coast will serve as a part of modern life that provides space for recreation and relaxation while being integrated into the city.
Pedestrian and cyclist priority spaces that expand and contract will be created, and many areas of the coast will connect visitors to the past while also providing a contemporary experience. Additionally, there will be various interactive water games, event spaces, squares, reflecting pools, resting areas, expanding green areas, cafes and restaurants, bars, art workshops, art galleries, and pavilions along the coastal strip. The area will serve as a catalyst for urban activities and will be supported by both private and public funds. It will enable many activities, ranging from small picnic-like events to music, art, and outdoor theater performances.
The design concept focuses on creating a sustainable, accessible, and functional coastal promenade that celebrates Budva’s past, present, and future. The project proposes a series of ecological and recreational solutions that will help restore the lost green areas and increase the green area meterage. This will not only enhance the natural beauty of the coastline but will also contribute to the sustainability of the town.
In this context, our main goals in the project are:
• To pedestrianize the promenade and provide users with a seamless and accessible coastal strip, ensuring the relationship between the city and the coast.
• Comprehensive preservation and transformation of the public space in the historic center.
• Creating indoor and outdoor spaces where city residents and visitors can live, socialize, relax, learn, and spend time.
• Creating public spaces, attraction points, festival and event spaces that thousands of people will visit every year.
• Reclaiming green areas of the coastline through ecological and recreational solutions, resulting in an increase in the square meters of green space.
• Removing unqualified and unplanned structures and buildings that occupy the coastline and proposing more characterful and modern buildings.
As a result, the coastline that has long nourished Budva’s history, culture, and economy will be redesigned in a unique architectural style that we can leave to future generations. It will have a strong cultural identity and will be socially inclusive, covering all segments of society and age groups. We look forward to the opportunity to realize this vision and create a unique coastal promenade that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
