Architects from across the globe have been invited to enter their latest projects into the 10th annual MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards programme, which uniquely celebrates innovative thinking and approaches to design for building concepts or projects yet to be built.

The prestigious awards form a centrepiece event for showcasing exemplar architectural design and robust responses to the client brief, and will take place during the MIPIM commercial property market in Cannes next March.

The awards include nine separate categories, eight of which are open to entry, with the ‘Overall Winner’ prize awarded during the ceremony. Previous winners have included the Musheireb – Doha, Qatar designed by Mossessian & Partners; Jean Nouvel designed ‘One New Change’ in the City of London; and Isay Weinfeld Arquitetura’s 360º Building in Brazil.

Eight award categories are available for entry, they include:

Big Urban Projects
Regeneration and Masterplanning
Tall Buildings
Mixed Use
Offices
Residential
Retail and Leisure
Retrofit

The Retrofit category, new for the awards in 2012, will celebrate the best creative re-use of a building which demonstrates significant energy and environmental improvement. This new category reflects the increasing demand for designs that adhere to the low-carbon agenda and prolong the active life of existing buildings and infrastructure.

An additional Sustainability prize will be awarded to one project entered in any of the above categories. This category cannot be entered separately.

The deadline for entry is 23rd November 2011. An international jury, chaired by Paul Finch, will be announced shortly.

Paul Finch, the director of the MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards, said, “The Future Project Awards attracts a stellar selection of the highest quality architectural projects from around the world. Not only do the awards consistently identify projects which subsequently go on to be both realized and critically praised, but they also help to raise the profile of some of the field’s most innovative thinkers and designers.

The MIPIM AR Future Project Awards are truly international, with the most recent winning projects hailing from UAE, Italy, Qatar, France, UK, and China.

2011’s winning practices included Mossessian & Partners, Terry Farrell & Partners, Pangalos Dugasse Feldmann Architectes, Denton Corker Marshall and Arup Associates

Jeremy Thompson, International Director, TENGBOM and 2011 MIPIM Future Project Awards winners, said: “Our win has certainly gained recognition for Tengboms hard working team and our local China partners United Design Group. The scheme has gone on to win a further China National prize for innovation in town planning within Jiangzu Province.”

The Awards will be presented during a special celebratory dinner held in Cannes at the Palais Stéphanie on 7th March 2012 during the market, an event that has become the hot ticket evening for architects at MIPIM.

There will also be a permanent exhibition of all entrants on display on the London Stand, and all winning and commended schemes will be published in the official catalogue which is distributed to all registered MIPIM delegates.

The MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards are organised in participation with Emap Construct, and are supported by Protek. FTI Consulting is the official communication partner.
